Author’s Reflection

Writing has always been a mirror for thought. This reflection captures what I learned through poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction during The Art of Creative Writing: Inspiration, Craft, and Form.

Out of everything we studied in this course, the subject I was most excited about was poetry. I’ve always found it interesting how a few carefully chosen words can hold so much meaning. This class helped me see poetry as a powerful tool to express emotions, thoughts, and experiences that might be hard to explain otherwise. It taught me that writing isn’t just about telling a story—it’s about understanding yourself better.

At the same time, reading creative nonfiction and fiction helped me grow as both a reader and writer. I learned to look deeper into what the writer is trying to say, and to notice how structure, tone, and form all affect the message. Even when I wasn’t writing poetry, I saw how poetic language and imagery could shape other forms of writing too.

Writing helped me process ideas and feelings I didn’t even realize I had, and reading showed me how others have done the same. Every part of this course—especially the feedback and revision process—helped me realize that writing isn’t about being perfect the first time. It’s about discovery and clarity. I now see creative writing as a way to improve both communication and self-understanding.
